Meet two opposites in a charming new adaptation of the classic tale about racing, time and friendship. Containing few words, but brimming with loveable characters, live music and wonderful physical theatre, tutti frutti embraces contrast and change from the sun-shining, flower-blooming spring to the snow-falling, chilly-blasts of winter.

Creating beautifully crafted performances, heaped with imagination and meaning, tutti frutti perform across the country to over 20,000 children a year, producing shows such as Animal Trails and the critically-acclaimed When We Lived In Uncle’s Hat.

Visitors to the first event on Saturday 21 April can expect an experience which is out of this world as the theme for the day is space. Children’s show Muttnik: The First Dog In Space (suitable for ages three and upwards) is an exciting and imaginative take on the true story of Laika, the dog sent to space aboard the Russian Sputnik 2 rocket. The Make & Do workshop will take a musical journey into outer-space with lots of singing, instrument playing and games, and children can make their own rockets in the craft corner.

For young cinema enthusiasts, Oscar-winning film The Muppets will be shown in The Theatre at 10.30am – an apt venue for the film which sees everyone’s favourite fuzzy creatures, the Muppets, reunited to save their theatre from a greedy oil tycoon.

Family Fun activities start from 10am, with 45 minute long Make & Do workshops at 10am, 12pm and 1pm and with drop in craft sessions throughout the day until 3pm, giving children and their grown-ups the chance to take part in exciting activities before or after they see the show or the film. The Core’s Coffee Shop will be open for teas, coffees, soft drinks and cakes. The workshops are run by experienced early years practitioners and are all about exploration, creativity and having fun together.

The workshops and craft activities are free of charge and there is no need to book for these, but booking is recommended for the shows and the film. Muttnik: The First Dog in Space is on stage at 11am and 2pm and The Muppets film can be seen at 10.30am. Tickets for Muttnik are £5.50 each and tickets for The Muppets film are £6.50 for adults, £4.50 concessions and £20 for a family ticket. Toddle Time is a friendly, informal session for children who are confident walkers. The session includes songs, rhymes and stories delivered in a fun and friendly way and is great for helping with your child’s language development. In partnership with Northamptonshire County Council Libraries Service.

The Lyric Lounge is a Writing East Midlands project with production support from Renaissance One. It was artistically developed by Lydia Towsey.
